A parent is a child's first teacher

Learn with Play exists to make that job feel possible — not with a curriculum, but with one good idea you can use tonight.

Where this started

Hello, and welcome. My name is Palak Patel and I founded Learn with Play. It began during my pregnancy, when I started studyingGarbhsanskar — the traditional Indian practice of nurturing a child before birth through a calm environment, music, reading and the mother's own state of mind.

What stayed with me was the underlying assumption: a child's development does not begin on the first day of school. It begins far earlier, and it is shaped by the ordinary environment a family builds around them.

Then my son Jaineel arrived, and theory met reality. What survived contact with real parenting were the simplest ideas — that a calm adult matters more than an expensive toy, that repetition is how a baby learns rather than a sign of boredom, and that a child is paying attention to you constantly, especially when you think they are not.

Our philosophy

We believe play is not a break from learning. It is the learning. Through play a child tests ideas, builds vocabulary, practises being frustrated without giving up, and works out what their body can do.

So we focus on the whole child — hands, words, thinking, feelings — and on the parent's ability to support all of it in the twenty minutes they actually have. Not perfect parenting. Present parenting.

Our mission

To give parents and caregivers the ideas and confidence to turn everyday moments into opportunities for growth and bonding — so that children explore, learn and develop in a loving environment, and reach their highest potential.

What we hold ourselves to

Nothing you have to buy

Rice, dal, katoris, bottle caps, water, old newspaper. If an activity needs a purchase, it does not belong here.

Honest about what it builds

One primary skill per activity, stated plainly. No claiming a rice tray builds "holistic genius".

Your language, not ours

Published in English, Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati — because a child learns fastest in the language their parents are funniest in.

Twenty minutes, not twenty hours

Written for parents with jobs, commutes and dinner to cook. Every activity states its time and its mess before you commit.
