Quick look: how many dots?

Ready? Press the button and look fast!

Play it together

Sit together and let your child press the buttons. After each answer, ask out loud: how did you see it? Some children say three and two, some say they counted fast. Every answer is a good one. Stop while it is still fun.

What it practises

Seeing small amounts at a glance, without counting one by one. That is all we claim for it. The real version,How Did You See It?, does the same job with things from your kitchen, and does it better.

Five minutes on the screen is plenty. No sign-up, no sound, no ad networks, and nothing your child types leaves this page. More games in the Play corner.

Questions parents ask

What is subitising?

Subitising is seeing how many there are without counting one by one. Most young children can do it for up to about three or four things. Seeing bigger amounts as two small groups, like 5 as 3 and 2, is an early step towards adding.

Why do the dots disappear so quickly?

If the dots stayed, your child would count them one at a time. The short look pushes them to see the amount, or the groups, all at once. Turn on Longer look for younger children.
